ART GALLERY DEBUTS RESIDENT SHOW
Sandy Green has been an artist all her life. Her formal education at New York City’s High School of Music and Art and then at Cooper Union set her on a path of personal and professional success. Her classmates included Milton Glaser, a world-famous graphic art designer. After graduating from Cooper Union, Sandy used her commercial art skills for fabric design. She continued her artistic career during her years as a wife and mother to three children on Long Island, working for local arts organizations and public libraries to create publicity posters, event brochures, and informational materials. She is especially proud of her work on annual calendars highlighting banned books around the country. Sandy notes, “It was so much fun and so satisfying to do art for such good causes.”
Sandy’s artistic influences include Van Gogh, Picasso, Sargent, Monet, and Renoir – and especially Matisse for form and use of color. About her art, she says: “I always need a subject to start from, some thing or person I can relate to. A spring morning, the light on a wonderfully elaborate flower, the expression on a child’s face. I hope I can keep making some small discoveries for myself about painting in this comfortable place where I live now.” At Springhouse since 2018, Sandy is often in the art room and is happy to share her passion for watercolor and other art media with her neighbors.
