Grandparent’s Day is Sunday, September 13th. If you are looking for a gift suggestion, we would like to suggest purchasing an iPad or other tablet.
Springhouse is always looking for new ideas to support the health, safety and quality of life for our residents. This has become an even greater challenge since the onset of Covid-19. We all know that being socially distant during these difficult times can lead to isolation, boredom, loneliness, depression and anxiety for older adults. iPads can be an excellent tool in the hands of our residents to connect with loved ones, friends, doctors and to be used for activities, entertainment, news or mental stimulation on demand when they want it.
The use of an iPad could bring joy to residents. The residents at Springhouse who have iPads or other tablets have been enjoying virtual visits with their families regularly. This has been their connection to their families and loved ones. You can even get headphones for the iPad which enables residents to see and better HEAR their friends and families. In addition, an iPad can double as a music player. Families can help download their loved one’s favorites music for them to enjoy over and over, and with headphones for as loud as they want! Also, an iPad can store photos. Again, families could download photos for their parents and grandparents to stay connected and share cherished memories and stories.
A tablet really could enhance the quality of life for many of our residents at Springhouse. If you plan to purchase an iPad for Grandparent’s Day, please keep in mind that the resident needs to have internet access in their apartment which is part of the Comcast package.
