A Visit From the Mayor!

Mayor Martin Walsh and his team graciously visited Springhouse as a part of his ”Aging in Boston” initiative.  His visit was in mid June and he was able to discuss a number of topics our Springhouse residents were interested in.

Springhouse residents enjoyed the warmer weather spring provided so they put on their gardening gloves on for some planting. Residents planted flowers for the many containers in our garden and were excited to plant herbs and vegetables this year in several of the raised beds throughout the garden.

Telling Your Story

Springhouse residents are involved in a weekly writing group at the Brookline Council on Aging called “Telling Your Story.” One of our residents has been involved in this group for over 15 years.  The attendees are all seniors from the local community who enjoy “telling their stories.”  The group meets weekly and various members will

An enjoyable sedar was celebrated at Springhouse, complete with all the traditional fare. Two hundred matzo balls were prepared along with 66 and a half pounds of brisket and 10 bottles of wine.

HCAB Comes To Allen House

Springhouse Senior Living welcomes the Harvard College Alzheimer’s Buddies Program (HCAB) to our Allen House neighborhood. The program matches a college student with a resident who they visit once a week for an hour. HCAB is in it’s 6th year and has become the fastest growing volunteer program for the elderly in Harvard’s history.

Bill Tarlow modestly describes himself as a small town boy. Born and brought up in Brockton, MA, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1944, where he was voted most likely to succeed, and then joined the navy for two years.

Dr. Robert Stern, who is Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine, and Director of the Clinical Core of the BU Alzheimer’s Disease Center and co-founder of the BU Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy made the presentation entitled Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia 2015: Reasons for Hope.
