In this program, Springhouse residents shared memorabilia such as their war medals, uniform cap, photos in uniform, and photo books with the Roslindale students.  The four veterans in this segment Mel Clere, Joe Kirdahy, Clint Matthews, and Sylvia Meyer shared their stories about their quality of life and experiences while serving in World War II. This show was moderated by Glenn Williams and aired on Comcast Channel 9 and RCN Channel 15 on several occassions.

This program is a collaboration with Senior Palooza, a series of informative activities in the Boston area specifically for elders and their support circles to celebrate Older Americans Month in May. Senior Palooza is hosted by Ethos, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting independence, dignity and well-being among the elderly and disabled through quality, affordable and culturally-appropriate home and community-based care.

On a previous tour, the MFA guide discussed the evolution of art in the late 1800’s from realism to impressionism, which attributed to the development of oil paint sold in tubes. The guide passed around paintbrushes, canvas, and satin ribbons so the residents could hold and feel the types of materials the artists used. Some of the resident’s favorite pieces are Monet’s Dance at Bougival, Degas Dancer Sculpture, and The Postman by Van Gogh. Springhouse will continue to participate in the Access to the Art program by visiting the museum monthly.

Together we are working with small groups of interested residents, helping them to make the most of this system. “It’s Never 2 Late” combines the major computer and internet functions into one easy package for our community. Our activities team and residents are learning new ways to keep in touch with loved ones, enhance their lives with brain fitness games, reminisce and enjoy all forms creative entertainment and resource functions.
