What does a “secure unit” mean?
A secure unit does mean that it is locked for the safety sake of the residents who tend to wander without even realizing it. Allen House at Springhouse has a keypad with combination needed to get in and out. The residents must be accompanied by staff or family member each time they leave the unit in order to guarantee their safety. Residents of Allen House go out of the unit at least daily if not more than once per day for supervised exercise and for some activities.

What types of memory care training does your staff receive?
All staff working in our memory care unit must have a minimum of 14 hours of orientation prior to being scheduled to work in our memory care unit. These hours must be specifically directed to dementia care training on topics related to the specialized care needs of the Resident population. On going in-service education and training must consist of 10 hours with at least 6 hours focused on the specialized needs of Residents with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.
Can residents stay if they become agitated?
Yes, should your loved one get agitated, we will do our very best to ease their fears and make them as comfortable as possible. By knowing our residents well, we can often avoid these situations.
